Justo (Companions of Christmas)
$10.00
One of the SchweizerCraft "Companions of Christmas" series (#Xmas F 27)
Saint Justo was a daimyô during the Sengoku period, but his adherence to Catholicism saw him banished from his beloved Japan. He went into exile in Manila, and grew terribly ill from his grief, but wanted to hold on until the Christmas season was over. So when midnight struck at the end of Candlemas (February 2), the definitive end of the traditional Christmas season, he gave up his ghost.
Now, folks who keep the season until Candlemas may be visited by Justo (canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church as Blessed Justo Takayama Ukon), who will serve their family pancakes (or crêpes, depending on where they live) in celebration of the day.
But if they still have their decorations up, he’ll draw his katana and chop those decorations to pieces as a reminder that Christmas has its time, and that time is over no later than the second day of February.
