The Red Set Queen (Companions of Christmas)
$10.00
Part of the COMPANIONS OF CHRISTMAS collection (#Xmas F24)
The Red Set Queen composes, choreographs, directs, and produces the performances of the famed Red Set Girls for Jamaica’s Jonkonnu festival. With much less funding and support than her longtime rival, the socially-connected French Set Queen and her cadre of classically-trained French-Set girls, the Red Set Queen nevertheless creates exciting and beloved shows year after year by applying her belief that anyone can perform well if they practice well and practice hard, which her motley but dedicated company does in the weeks leading up to the end of December.
Santa, a longtime fan of the Red Set, long ago appointed its Queen to oversee all pageantry at the North Pole, where among other roles, she leads the Companions Choir, which is made up of the more musical elves and companions (including, as a double-basso profundo, the notoriously shy Knecht Ruprecht, who no longer suffers the stage fright he once did thanks to the Queen’s tutelage and encouragement).
And if you are ever putting together a holiday pageant, review, recital, musical, ballet, or opera, and are having difficulty figuring out a particularly troublesome staging or production problem, you might awake from sleep to find that you suddenly have the solution. That’s how you know that the Red Set Queen popped in on your dreams to offer some guidance.
